- The lake is alkaline and saline at the same time. The pH level of the lake is around 12.
- Due to the lake's high pH level, there are no fishes or other aquatic life, except for algae and special microorganisms.
- The microorganisms found in this lake (Bacterias and algae) can not be found anywhere else on earth.
- The soil around the lake is magnetic.
- A recent study, conducted by IIT Bombay found that the minerals in the lake’s soil are very similar to the minerals found in moon rocks.
